Barceló will consolidate its presence in the Madeira archipelago, while Vincci is opting for a four-star hotel in Porto.
Barceló Hotel Group is continuing its expansion plans in Madeira and has announced the opening of two new hotels in Funchal. With these two new establishments, the Spanish hotel chain consolidates its presence in Madeira with four hotels and four of its brands.
The hotel chain announced the acquisition of two establishments which, after the construction and complete refurbishment of their facilities, with an estimated investment of more than 50 million euros, will have a positive impact on the island’s economy with the creation of 300 new jobs.
The company plans to start operating at the Quinta Funchal Palace Garden hotel, formerly known as Quinta das Vistas Palace Gardens, from next June. Once the final rehabilitation project for the building has been approved, it will close its doors for the complete refurbishment of all its facilities.
Barceló’s aim is to reposition the emblematic establishment and turn it into one of the best 5-star hotels in Funchal. The new hotel, which is scheduled to open in 2026, will be marketed under the Royal Hideaway brand.
The hotel chain is also planning to build a new hotel in the historic center of Funchal, next to the Mercado dos Lavradores, which is scheduled to open at the end of 2025. The new establishment will have 4 stars and will be marketed under the Occidental brand.
With these two new accommodations, the Barceló Hotel Group consolidates its presence in Madeira with a total of four hotels. In 2023, the hotel chain opened the five-star, 111-room Barceló Funchal Oldtown, after refurbishing six 17th-century buildings. Prior to this addition, the Barceló Hotel Group already managed the Allegro Madeira hotel, a modern adults-only establishment located just a few minutes from the center of Funchal and the Lido area.
Vincci opens new hotel in Porto
Vincci Hotels is opening a new hotel in Porto, the Vincci Bonjardim, a four-star hotel located on Rua do Bonjardim, from where it takes its name to give life to this new establishment.
Vincci Bonjardim is the third hotel chain to open in Porto, joining Vincci Porto and Vincci Ponte de Ferro. This is the fifth hotel in Portugal, as the group has two other establishments in Lisbon (Vincci Baixa and Vincci Liberdad).
The owner of this new establishment is Begicap Investments, which has made a total investment of around 21.5 million euros in the project.
