
The National Maritime Authority (AMN) discovered the body of a man offshore at Cantareira, Foz do Douro, in Porto, on Saturday morning.
As per an AMN statement, the “causes of the incident” remain unknown at this time.
The alert for the body’s presence was received by the head of the Foz do Douro Lifeboat Station early in the morning, prompting an immediate response from the Douro Maritime Police Command, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), and the Portuenses Volunteer Firefighters.
The Maritime Police retrieved the body from the “rocky area where it was located,” and the INEM physician declared the death on-site.
Subsequently, after notifying the Public Ministry, firefighters transported the body to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Porto.
The Douro Maritime Police Command is currently overseeing the case.
