The Green Beret and Salt Flats Festivals began on Friday in Alcochete, in the Setúbal district, where several injuries have already been reported due to the festivities.
A source from the Alcochete Volunteer Fire Department provided an overview of the last three days, considering Friday and Saturday to be the most severe.
According to the official, 28 people were injured during these festivals, where bull runs take place every day. The majority of the injured are men, but there were also women who sustained minor injuries.
The fire department further explained that of these 28 cases, there were three more serious ones, of which one was hospitalized in Barreiro and two others at Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon. These more severe cases mainly involved “punctures from the trunk upwards,” and the age of these victims ranged from 22 to 43 years old.
In addition to punctures and injuries caused by impact with released bulls, there were also reports of people falling from trenches, for example. The festivities continued until Thursday, August 15.
