Carris driver threatened by passenger thanks PSP for "courage"

A Carris bus driver, from the public road transport company in Lisbon, thanked a Public Security Police (PSP) officer after being “threatened by a passenger carrying a bladed weapon” on board a bus.

In a note of gratitude published on the Lisbon Metropolitan Command’s Facebook page, the driver revealed that he was “the victim of a situation” that “could have had tragic consequences” if the officer, identified as Marco Tavares, had not intervened.

The incident occurred on the 79B line, which circulates in Algés, when the driver was “threatened by a passenger carrying a bladed weapon” and had to stop the vehicle to protect himself and the “passengers on board” at around 8:00 PM.

“Officer Marco Tavares, even though he was far from the scene, quickly noticed the conflict and, with impressive efficiency and speed, went to the location to provide assistance,” the driver recounted, adding that “thanks to the swift and decisive intervention” of the police officer, “the aggressor fled, avoiding a potentially disastrous outcome.”

The man also praised the officer’s “courage and professionalism” in handling the situation. “His performance was essential to ensure the safety of all involved. His exemplary actions reflect the commitment and dedication of public security professionals, ensuring the protection and tranquility of our community,” he wrote.

The note of gratitude, however, does not explain when the incident took place.
