Cloudier skies on Thursday, but temperatures will still reach 35ºC

With just a month left until autumn arrives, beach lovers should pay attention to the temperatures – which on Thursday will still be pleasant for outdoor activities.

According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), on August 22, the forecast is for cloudier skies compared to Wednesday – with only the districts of Castelo Branco, Vila Real, and Faro expecting clear skies.

Along the coast – in the regions of Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, and Lisbon – the sky will be partially cloudy. The same applies to the Azores archipelago, where rain or showers are expected on the island of Santa Cruz das Flores. The rest of the country should see mostly clear skies.

The yellow warning for hot weather was initially expected to end today but has been extended until 6 PM on Thursday.

What about the temperatures?

Despite cloudier skies, temperatures will still be favorable for beach outings, with thermometers in Faro reaching 30°C. However, this won’t be the hottest region, as Castelo Branco is expected to have the highest temperatures in the country, reaching 35°C.

Other areas above the 30°C mark include Bragança at 34°C, Évora at 33°C, and Beja at 32°C. Despite clear skies and a maximum of 30°C, Vila Real is expected to feel the coldest, with temperatures dropping to 14°C, the lowest predicted temperature.

The Portuguese capital will be “average,” with highs of 26°C, while Porto will be cooler with highs of 22°C.

In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which is currently affected by a wildfire, the predicted highs are 27°C for Funchal and 26°C for Porto Santo.
