According to statements made to Lusa news agency, a source from the Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Alentejo Coast indicated that authorities received an alert about the accident at 1:57 PM. The incident occurred on EN390 near S. Domingos, Santiago do Cacém, in the district of Setúbal.
A source from the Setúbal Territorial Command of the GNR (National Republican Guard) added that the “head-on collision” involving two passenger vehicles resulted in “six injured, of which five were serious and one was minor.”
“The injured, three males and three females, are between 3 and 83 years old,” the guard source also said, specifying that the minor injury was sustained by “a 3-year-old girl.”
According to the Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Alentejo Coast, around 1:35 PM, the injured were still “being evaluated at the scene,” where a helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) had already arrived.
Due to the damaged vehicles and the helicopter, which landed on the road itself, traffic was blocked in both directions on that section of EN390 near S. Domingos at around 3:40 PM, according to the GNR.
In addition to the helicopter, 28 operatives supported by 11 vehicles were mobilized to the scene, including resources from firefighters, GNR, and INEM.
