Dance show evoking Eduardo Galeano opens ACERT program

The Cultural and Recreational Association of Tondela (ACERT) returns in September with a varied program, which kicks off on the 7th with a dance show based on Graça Castanheira’s documentary “O Tempo e o Modo” about Eduardo Galeano.

Dance, music and theater make up ACERT’s program for the new season, which also includes the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, the association announced today in a statement.

The opening show, entitled “Presente 2023/24”, is a piece created by Joana Providência and Daniela Cruz for Presente Companhia de Dança Jovem, in co-production with Novo Ciclo ACERT, based on Graça Castanheira’s documentary about the Uruguayan journalist and writer Eduardo Galeano, author of works such as “As Veias Abertas da América Latina”.

The following Saturday, September 14, is dedicated to theater for families, with “Cubo”, a show by the Spanish company Elefante Elegante, which explores the theme of friendship and overcoming gender barriers in an environment of equality.

On September 21, the Women’s School brings to the stage the show “The Company of Wolves”, based on the same text by Angela Carter, which explores themes of feminism and the complex relationship between human and animal nature, challenging social norms and celebrating the emancipation of women.

On the following Friday and Saturday, the Gambozinos e Peobardos company will challenge early risers with the premiere of “Aurora”, an open-air “walk-show” that begins at dawn and ends at sunrise, on a route that is also a tribute to the April Revolution.

The meeting point for this walk is the entrance to the New ACERT Cycle, at 06:00, and it is recommended that you book your place in advance, as capacity is limited to 35 people.

Also on the same Saturday, the 28th, the “Fornada” exhibition opens, showing the processes, people, activities and artists who collaborated in the development and application of the Olaria Lab. Ceramics Laboratory, which has been running since 2019 at the Casa do Barro pottery in Fundão.

Music closes the program on the 28th, with a concert by Carlos Peninha Quinteto + Quarteto de Cordas, who present “Tudo Começa Agora”, their most recent album.

According to ACERT, “this show is a profound reflection on human resilience in the face of the pandemic and environmental challenges, combining improvisation and a fusion of world and contemporary music”.
