The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, praised this Monday the “good coordination between the Government and Civil Protection” in response to the magnitude 5.3 earthquake felt today across much of the country.
After a meeting at Belém Palace with acting Prime Minister Paulo Rangel, who is substituting for Luís Montenegro during his vacation, Marcelo addressed the nation, confirming that “up to this moment, there is no knowledge of personal injuries or property damage,” although he reminded that this information is “subject to updates.”
Another “good news,” the Head of State emphasized, is that “the aftershocks seem to have a decreasing trend,” unlike what happened in 1969, during the earthquake that killed 13 people in mainland Portugal.
