The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) reported that the earthquake was recorded at 07:18 AM, and was felt “with a maximum intensity of III (modified Mercalli scale) in the municipality of Alcobaça (Leiria).”
According to the organization, the earthquake was also felt with less intensity in the municipality of Porto de Mós (Leiria).
The institute stated that the earthquake “did not cause personal or material damage,” emphasizing, however, that the information will be updated if the situation warrants it.
According to the organization, locating the epicenter of an earthquake is a “complex physical and mathematical process that depends on the data set, algorithms, and seismic wave propagation models,” so “different agencies may produce slightly different results.”
