Portugal will send a team on Wednesday to help in the search for Turkey, after the strong earthquake that has already caused more than 5,000 deaths in the country and in Syria.
The Minister of Internal Administration is talking about a team of 53 elements from Civil Protection, GNR and INEM, which will join the European partners.
“In the coming hours, a team of 53 elements composed of elements of the National Civil Protection Emergency Authority, elements of the UEPS (Emergency Unit for Protection and Rescue) of the National Republican Guard and also elements of medical emergency, will leave our country to join the European efforts of humanitarian nature of civil protection and, very particularly in the case of Portuguese support, in the context of search and rescue,” said today the Minister of Internal Administration, José Luis Carneiro, on the sidelines of a meeting with mayors of the Center region in Coimbra.
The governor also referred that he has no indication of Portuguese among the victims of the earthquake in Turkey.
