Eight flights were diverted and three canceled due to bad weather in Madeira

Eight flights to Madeira, operated by various companies and coming from different European cities, diverted today to other airports or returned to their origin due to the bad weather affecting the south coast of the island.

According to information available on the ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal website, operations at Madeira International Airport, located in Santa Cruz, in the east, were severely restricted during the morning, with eight flights forced to diverge by 12 noon and three flights canceled (two departures and one arrival).

The south coast of Madeira and the mountainous regions are under an orange warning today due to precipitation, between 06:00 and 21:00.

According to a statement issued by the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the orange warning, the second most serious on a scale of three, is due to “sometimes heavy rain, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms”.
