The pickup truck of the 87-year-old man who has been missing since Sunday afternoon in Serpa was found at dusk on Tuesday in Quintos, in the municipality of Beja. However, the man, who has dementia, was not inside the vehicle, as confirmed by the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR).
The open-bed Toyota Hilux pickup was located near the bank of the Guadiana River, in an area without network coverage, with dense vegetation and difficult access.
The vehicle, which was found thanks to a helicopter mobilized on Tuesday afternoon, was off the road, leading authorities to consider that it may have veered off course.
Operations continued with dogs and drones, but the elderly man was not spotted.
The search will be reinforced at 7:30 AM this morning, according to the GNR.
It’s worth noting that the elderly man, who reportedly had only a water bottle with him, managed to find the car keys and left home around 2:00 PM on Sunday. The last location signal from the man’s mobile phone was recorded at 5:00 PM on Monday in Mértola. Since then, his whereabouts have been unknown.
