The state of the EU – a state that is not very positive for Portugal
Portugal is the seventh country in the European Union with the lowest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. In 2022, Portugal will be overtaken by the economies of Estonia and Latvia, according to data published Thursday by the statistical office Eurostat.
Taking the average GDP per capita index in the European Union in purchasing power parity as 100, Portugal recorded 85.70 points in 2022, an improvement from 85.62 points in the previous year.
However, Portugal is still far behind the European average and countries such as Spain, France, Italy and Germany.
Luxembourg and Ireland stand out as the two European Union countries with the best indices, with 261 points and 234 points, respectively. The third best country is Denmark with 136 points.
