Festa da Música” brings Nininho Vaz Maia and Richie Campbell to Faro

The municipality of Faro, in partnership with various local groups and associations, will be promoting the “Summer Solstice” entertainment program between June 21 and 24, aimed at marking the start of summer in the Algarve region, Faro local authority announced today.

The events included in the program, which will take place mainly on the Dockside Stage, start with the “Fête de la musique” on Wednesday 21st, followed by a concert by Nininho Vaz Maia on Thursday 22nd, Richie Campbell and DJ Chus on Friday 23rd and Solstice Days on Saturday 24th.

Organized by the Aliance Française de L’Algarve and with the support of the municipality, the French Embassy in Portugal and the Association Récréative et Culturelle des Musiciens (ARCM), the first edition of the “Fête de la Musique” will take place on the Scène des Docks on the 21st, starting at 7pm. The free initiative will feature around four hours of live music, with French-, Portuguese- and international-speaking groups of various styles, including ARCM’s École de Musique Moderne du Sud, Podium (a Franco-Portuguese orchestra), Jean-Christian et le Quator des Rêves Enfouis and Tareja Blues Band.

On Thursday 22nd, the highlight will be Portuguese singer-songwriter Nininho Vaz Maia, performing from 10 pm on the Dockside Stage. The following day, on Friday, Richie Campbell, a leading figure in Portuguese reggae and dancehall, will perform on the Dockside Stage, also from 10 p.m., followed at midnight by DJ Chus, a renowned Spanish producer and DJ.

On Saturday 24th, the Ossónoba Choral Group, which celebrates its 43rd anniversary on that day, will once again promote the “Days of Solstice” initiative, an itinerant event starting at 8.45pm at Largo da Pontinha and ending at Palco da Doca.

The series of initiatives, promoted by the municipality in partnership with the Algarve Trade and Services Association (ACRAL), the Faro Historic Centre Business Development Association, the City Centre Cultural and Activist Association and the Algarve Hotel and Similar Industry Association (AIHSA), aims to “continue to reinvigorate the city center and support and revitalize the city’s commerce, hotels and restaurants”, the municipality said in a statement.

From this date and throughout the summer, the Dockside Stage will be the epicenter of several downtown entertainment initiatives promoted by the municipality and several other local groups.
