Figueira da Foz complains about debt from Turismo de Portugal

The mayor of the municipality, Pedro Santana Lopes, stated today during a council session that the issue represents “a very complicated process” between the local government and the public institute.

The mayor complained about a debt of approximately one million euros from TP, which has now started requiring requests for financial participation to be submitted before the commencement of municipal projects.

“It was never required that requests for financial participation were made before the start of the projects,” Pedro Santana Lopes remarked to journalists, highlighting that various events organized by the municipality with TP funding since the beginning of his term have yet to be paid.

The mayor underscored that he has been “very restrained” and recalled that his executive team met with TP several times in Lisbon, where they were informed that all issues would be resolved, a situation that has not yet materialized.

“They repeatedly said they would pay by the end of the year, but they still haven’t done so, and we have outstanding payments from the start of the term,” emphasized Pedro Santana Lopes, noting that this involves public funds.
