In statements to Lusa, a source from the Alto Minho Sub-Regional Command said that in the fight against the flames in the district of Viana do Castelo, “five aerial resources and a total of 53 operatives and 14 vehicles” from the fire departments of Monção, Ponte da Barca, and Arcos de Valdevez are involved.
According to the same source, “difficult access” is hindering the fight against this fire, as the blaze is consuming a mountainous area.
A large part of the northern and central interior of the country remains at maximum risk of rural fire today, as well as the Algarve municipalities of Monchique, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, and Tavira, according to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere.
The municipalities at maximum risk are in the districts of Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Portalegre, Santarém, and Faro.
Nearly a hundred municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Viseu, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Santarém, Lisboa, Portalegre, Beja, and Faro are at very high risk of fire.
