The fire chief of Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Vítor Rentes, reported in an update at 11:15 PM that the fire has an active front of “medium intensity,” but it is located in an area of difficult access.
Vítor Rentes also emphasized that resources are positioned to combat the fire, which is progressing “very slowly” due to access difficulties.
As of 11:20 PM today, 111 operatives were on site, supported by 34 vehicles, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) website.
The fire chief of Freixo de Espada à Cinta, in the southern part of the Bragança district, also highlighted that there are no homes at risk, nor any record of material damage so far.
The alert for the fire was given at 1:29 PM today, and during the afternoon, the concern was focused on preventing the fire from entering the forest that borders the village of Masouco, a location that is in the heart of the Douro International Natural Park (PNDI).
The mayor of Freixo de Espada à Cinta had informed Lusa earlier in the afternoon that the fire was being fought by Portuguese and Spanish firefighters and nine aerial resources, which withdrew at the end of the day.
