A fire that broke out today in the parish of Castelo Branco, in Mogadouro, Bragança district, was being fought by 140 firefighters supported by 40 vehicles and three aerial resources at 1:45 p.m., a Civil Protection source told Lusa.
“The fire started very violently and suddenly and we are using aerial means to fight the flames in this initial phase,” explained the sub-regional commander for emergency and civil protection for the Lands of Trás-os-Montes, João Noel Afonso, at around 1.45pm.
Noel Afonso said that for this fire, which is burning in an area of scrubland, at this early stage a significant number of operatives and resources have been mobilized to try to contain the advance of the flames.
According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the flames were alerted at 12:47.
According to the commander, there are no settlements or property in danger in this area of the fire.
