The fire that has been burning since 14:30 near the Montejunto mountain range, in the municipality of Cadaval, was dominated by 17:50 and is in the resolution phase, said a source from the Sub-command of Relief Operations of the West.
“The fire has been in resolution since 17:51 and the aftermath work will take overnight,” the same source said.
In the fight against the flames, by 18:15, there were still six air means and 146 operational, supported by 44 vehicles.
The fire was close to homes, but did not threaten them, nor did it cut roads, the source added.
The flames consumed forest area in the locality of Póvoa, in the parish of Cadaval and Pero Moniz, being unaccounted for the burned area.
Two other fires broke out today in nearby localities of the same municipality, located in the Montejunto mountain range, and are in the aftermath.
One of the fires broke out at 13:00 in Bairrosa, in the parish of Lamas and Cercal, and at the end of the afternoon it continued to involve 41 operatives and 12 vehicles.
Another began at 14:50 in Rechaldeira, parish of Vilar, and at 18:15 was still mobilizing 28 men and 10 vehicles.
Last month, the Montejunto mountain range was hit by two major fires, the last of which occurred two weeks ago and mobilized 13 air resources, more than 500 operatives and a hundred and a half vehicles.
In the two fires, 402 hectares burned, regional commander Carlos Silva told Lusa agency at the time.
