The fire in the engine room of the “Vasco da Gama” hotel boat, which has been burning since mid-afternoon on the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia, was extinguished at 6pm, a Civil Protection source told Lusa.
According to a source at the Porto Metropolitan Area Sub-Regional Command, there were no injuries.
According to the commander of the Northern Maritime Zone, Rui Lampreia, the tourist boat anchored at the Quebrantões quay in Oliveira do Douro triggered a fire alert in the engine room at 15:37.
Elements of the Vila Nova de Gaia Sapper Fire Brigade, the Avintes Fire Brigade, the Gaia Municipal Police, the Shipwreck Relief Institute and the Douro Captaincy were involved in fighting the flames.
At 18:15, according to Rui Lampreia, the operatives were carrying out the aftermath.
