A fire truck from the Peso da Régua Volunteer Fire Department in Vila Real overturned while on its way to a fire.
Initially, SIC Notícias reported that there were three injured, one of them in serious condition. The seriously injured person was said to be a female, around 40 years old, who would be airlifted to the hospital.
According to a source from the Douro Sub-Regional Civil Protection Command, “the crash of a heavy fire truck caused five injuries, all firefighters” from the Peso da Régua department, around 11:00 AM. The source could not specify whether the operatives suffered minor or serious injuries.
The firefighters were heading towards a rural fire in Peso da Régua when the accident occurred.
According to the national Civil Protection website, the crash happened in the Union of Parishes of Peso da Régua and Godim, mobilizing 17 men, eight vehicles, and one aerial asset for rescue operations.
