First JHA meeting of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU

Ministra da Justiça na Reunião Informal de Ministros da Justiça da União Europeia

The first Informal Meeting of Justice Ministers of the European Union, organized under the Swedish Presidency of the Council of Europe, took place this Friday in Stockholm.

The Minister of Justice, Catarina Sarmento e Castro, participated in the Informal Meeting of Ministers of Justice of the European Union, the first in the area of Justice and Home Affairs under the current Swedish Presidency of the EU Council.
Judicial cooperation in the fight against organized crime and the approval of a legal instrument for the transmission of criminal proceedings between member states were among the issues addressed at the meeting held in Stockholm, as well as the response to international crimes committed in Ukraine.
It should be remembered that the Presidency of the Council of the European Union rotates every six months among the member states, and the state holding the Presidency is responsible for leading the Council’s work and representing all 27 member states in negotiations with other European Union institutions.
Sweden is thus taking on this role for the third time, a role it began on January 1 and will hold until June 30, 2023. Security, competitiveness, ecological and energy transitions, and the rule of law are the Swedish Presidency’s priorities for the first half of the year.
