The North American investment captured by the ‘gold’ visa program increased 35% in the semester, to 82.1 million euros, while Chinese investment fell 1%, to 50.1 million euros, according to data requested by PP from the SEF.
According to data provided by the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), in the first half of this year investment from the United States captured through the Residence Permit for Investment (ARI) program totaled 82.1 million euros, in a total of 176 ‘gold’ visas granted.
This represents a 35% increase in investment compared to the same period in 2022, when the amount was 60.8 million euros, with 124 ‘golden’ visas granted.

Between January and June, investment from China totaled €50.1 million, with 119 ARI awarded, down 1% from the first half of 2022 (€50.7 million and 105 ARI awarded).
In third place this year is the United Kingdom, with an investment of 70.1 million euros and 97 ‘gold’ visas granted, entering the ranking of the five nationalities that have invested most in the program this year (in the same period it was not on the list).
Last year Turkey was on the list, with an investment of €14.9 million and 36 ARIs awarded.
In fourth place is Brazil, a nationality that obtained 61 ‘gold’ visas during the first six months of the year, for a total of 33.4 million euros. This is an increase of 10% compared to the 30.2 million euros registered in the first half of 2022 (45 ARIs granted).
In last place comes India, whose investment totaled 22.4 million Euros and 61 ARI were granted this year, 6.6% more than in the same period last year, when 47 ‘gold’ visas were granted.
The total investment already exceeds 7,000 million euros, adding up last month to 7,157,485,864.42 euros in cumulative terms since the program was launched in October 2012.
In this period 12,396 ARIs were assigned, of which 5,366 went to China, 1,229 to Brazil, 713 to the United States, 592 to Turkey, and 550 to South Africa.
