Five men aged between 17 and 43 years old and two women aged 40 and 43 were arrested on September 3rd for robbery, possession of prohibited weapons, and drug trafficking in the municipality of Coruche.
The arrests occurred following “an investigation related to a home robbery on July 2nd, which resulted in physical assaults on an elderly person in the neighborhood of Sra. da Luz, in Óbidos,” according to a statement from the National Republican Guard (GNR).
In this operation, the military carried out five searches, two in residences and three in vehicles, which resulted in the seizure of 171 doses of cocaine, 66 grams of cutting agent for cocaine, and a bottle of ammonia for crack production, as well as a pistol, two shotguns, 54 rounds of ammunition, a disassembled rifle barrel, two knives, and 2,020 euros in cash.
Two of the detainees, one of whom has a criminal record for robbery, theft, attempted murder, and possession of prohibited weapons, will remain in GNR facilities until they are presented at the Judicial Court of Leiria on September 5th.
The others were notified and will be presented at the Judicial Court of Leiria.
This action by the Leiria Territorial Command, through the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) of Caldas da Rainha, was supported by military personnel from the Territorial Detachment of Caldas da Rainha, the Territorial Detachment of Coruche, the Intervention Detachment (DI) of Santarém, and the Technical Support Unit (NAT) of the Leiria Territorial Command, the Special Operations Intervention Group (GIOE), and the Canine Intervention Group (GIC) of the Intervention Unit.
