A slight drop in temperature, occurrence of drizzle, and strong winds are some of the forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) for this Monday, September 2, in mainland Portugal. Is this a sign that summer is already leaving?
The IPMA predicts for today “the possibility of light rain or drizzle on the North and Central coast,” very cloudy skies, gradually becoming partly cloudy or clear from mid-morning, moving from the interior to the coast, and “strong winds, especially from the afternoon.”
During the afternoon, there may also be a “temporary increase in cloudiness in the North and Central interior” and “wind gusts” that can reach 65 kilometers per hour in the highlands.
For the beginning of this week, IPMA also predicts a “small drop in temperature.”
Although the forecasts hint at the arrival of autumn, the minimum temperatures for today range between 14ºC (in Viana do Castelo, Bragança, and Vila Real) and 19ºC (in Faro), while the maximum temperatures exceed 30ºC in Beja, Évora, Castelo Branco, and Faro.
The Lisbon region has a minimum of 17ºC and a maximum of 25ºC, while Porto records 15ºC and 22ºC, respectively.
For Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, a maximum of 27ºC is expected, and for Funchal, in the Madeira archipelago, 28ºC is anticipated.
