According to information provided by the Guard, there is a total closure on Highway (A) 25 between the Aveiro junction and Reigoso (Viseu), as well as on the A29, in the north-south direction, between the Estarreja junction and the A25 junction, and on the A1 between the Aveiro Sul junction and Estarreja.
On Complementary Itinerary (IC) 2, there is also a total closure between Albergaria and Serém de Baixo, as well as on National Road (EN) 238 in the Sever do Vouga area and on EN109 in the Aveiro district area.
According to Major Lígia Santos, the GNR “advises all people to avoid circulation” on these roads, which is why “it does not present any alternative.”
According to the official Civil Protection page, at 11:35 AM, three rural fires in the Aveiro region were being fought, considered “significant occurrences”: in Albergaria-a-Velha, with 141 operatives, 41 vehicles, and one aerial asset; Sever do Vouga, with 180 operatives, 60 vehicles, and three aerial assets; and Oliveira de Azeméis, with 564 operatives, 179 vehicles, and seven aerial assets.
In Albergaria-a-Velha, the fire that started on Sunday in the neighboring municipality of Sever do Vouga reached homes located in Cruzinha and Vila das Laranjeiras this morning. In the municipality, authorities have already proceeded with the evacuation of the Brandão Gomes neighborhood.
The smoke caused by the flames forced the evacuation of the Vale do Rio hotel on Sunday night as a precaution, but the source could not indicate if the evacuated people have already returned.
A firefighter from the São Mamede de Infesta fire department who was fighting the fire died from a sudden illness, despite being assisted on-site by a team from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).
