August is already halfway through, but summer seems to be ‘struggling’ to settle in the national territory, and the instability of thermometers this week is proof of that.
After a start of the week marked by cloudy skies in some regions, for Tuesday, the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts that – in addition to cloudiness – there will be rain.
According to experts, light rain, drizzle, or showers will be recorded in the North, in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, and Viana do Castelo – where the maximum temperatures will be 28ºC, 26ºC, and 23ºC, respectively.
Throughout the country, the sky will have some clouds – more intense in coastal regions and the North. In the interior of the country, there will be fewer clouds – although they will appear – but the heat will be greater.
While thermometers in the Lisbon district should reach 26ºC, with the neighboring region of Santarém reaching 28ºC, in the Interior, the mark will exceed 30ºC. It’s in the districts of Castelo Branco, Évora, Beja, and Faro where it will feel hottest, with maximum temperatures reaching 31ºC.
The warmest nights on the mainland will be reserved for the Algarve, where minimum temperatures should reach 20ºC.
And on the islands?
Regarding the islands, it’s in the Azores archipelago where it will be hottest. Despite the partly cloudy sky, maximum temperatures should reach 30ºC in Santa Cruz das Flores and Angra do Heroísmo.
In Madeira, maximum temperatures should be 28ºC in Funchal, where the sky will be slightly cloudy. On the other hand, in Porto Santo, thermometers should reach 27ºC – and the sky should be more overcast.
