Incident with aircraft forced the closure of Madeira Airport

The Airport firemen immediately went to the site and all landings and take-offs were suspended. The situation is, however, regularized.

Anincident with a Ryanair plane led to the closure of the Cristiano Ronaldo Airport in Funchal, Madeira, during the afternoon of Monday.

Smoke appeared in the aircraft moments before takeoff, which was scheduled for 15:15, heading to Lisbon, advanced SIC Notícias.

The airport fire department immediately went to the site and all landings and takeoffs were suspended.

Notícias ao Minuto contacted ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, which confirmed the incident.

“Due to technical issues, Ryanair flight to Lisbon did not continue its journey, having been held the landing of passengers” reveals the note, which adds that appropriate procedures were activated for this type of situation and that the operation at Madeira airport is now normalized.
