The Public Security Police (PSP), through the Airport Security and Border Control Division, arrested a 40-year-old woman at Lisbon Airport on June 18 on suspicion of drug trafficking.
In a statement released on Monday, the security force explains that the woman “was traveling to a country belonging to the European Union and presented herself at the border”.
After agreeing “to be subjected to a detailed check with the aim of verifying the conditions of entry and the documents proving the aim and purpose of her stay in Portugal and the Schengen area”, the PSP found that the woman “was speaking in an equivocal manner, showing nervousness, restlessness and always trying to hide her luggage behind the chair she was sitting on”.
“During the inspection, two trolley-type suitcases were found with grey compartments that didn’t appear to be part of the suitcases,” says the same note.
After removing these “improvised” compartments, the PSP found “that they contained six packages glued to the suitcases, wrapped in black adhesive tape”.
“After analyzing these packages, it was found that they contained a white powder inside, which was immediately suspected of being a drug, especially cocaine. The seized product was sent for analysis and examination and found to be cocaine corresponding to 22,990 individual doses,” he reveals.
The detainee was brought before the Judicial Court of the District of Lisbon, and the coercive measure of pre-trial detention was applied to her.
