The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow warning on Monday to be in effect from 12:00 PM local time (1:00 PM in Lisbon) on Tuesday until 11:00 AM local time (12:00 PM in Lisbon) on Thursday. However, today they extended it until 9:00 PM local time on Friday.
The yellow warning, caused by the “persistence of high maximum temperature values,” covers all islands of the Azores archipelago, including the Eastern, Central, and Western groups.
The Eastern group consists of the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria, the Western group includes the islands of Flores and Corvo, while the Central group is composed of the islands of Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa, and Terceira.
The yellow warning, which is the least severe on a three-level scale, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on meteorological conditions.
