A man was located and arrested on Monday by the Judicial Police (PJ) for kidnapping, coercing, and threatening another man with prohibited weapons in Amarante. The crimes occurred on October 23 of last year.

According to a statement from the PJ, the 31-year-old suspect believed that the victim “had stolen three motorcycles from him days before.” Accompanied by another person, he forced the victim to enter a car, which he drove to a remote location.

There, he demanded information from the victim “under the threat of a firearm, about the whereabouts of the motorcycles.”

“The victim, who had nothing to do with the theft, was eventually freed by family members who came to the location where he was still being held against his will and under threats to his physical integrity,” the PJ statement notes.

During house searches, PJ inspectors seized three firearms: a shotgun, a pistol, a revolver, and various cartridges and ammunition.

The detainee, who resides abroad, will be brought before a judge to have precautionary measures applied.
