This year’s edition of ‘La Vuelta’ will have three stages in Portuguese territory, starting on Saturday with a 12-kilometer time trial, departing from the Jerónimos Monastery (Lisbon) and finishing at Praia da Torre (Oeiras). It will continue on Sunday between Cascais and Ourém, and on Monday from Lousã to Castelo Branco.
Due to the Spanish race and the Pedala Portugal Bike Tour Lisbon/Oeiras 2024, the Lisbon City Council announced several traffic restrictions in the capital, including the interruption of traffic circulation in Praça do Império, Avenida da Índia, Avenida de Brasília, and adjacent areas, which began on Wednesday and ends today.
Traffic constraints affect Avenida de Brasília (Algés-Lisbon direction) until 00:00 on Sunday, with the right lane restricted for tourist bus stops between Padrão dos Descobrimentos and Belém Ferry Station.
In Praça do Império, traffic remains restricted between Rua D. Lourenço de Almeida and Largo dos Jerónimos, with traffic redirected through Rua Bartolomeu Dias, Av. do Restelo, and Rua dos Jerónimos until 00:00 on Sunday.
Access to traffic is prohibited in several arteries leading to Av. da Índia, including Rua Damião de Góis, Travessa do Forte da Areia, Av. de Brasília (via Pedrouços Viaduct), Av. da Torre de Belém (with a circulation corridor to allow access to Rua Fernão Mendes Pinto), Rua Lagoa Henriques, Centro Cultural de Belém parking lot (access via Rua Bartolomeu Dias), Museu dos Coches parking lot (access via Av. da Índia), and Rua Mécia Mouzinho de Albuquerque.
Traffic circulation is cut off in various sections of Av. da Índia and surrounding areas until 00:00 on Sunday. Rua dos Jerónimos will be closed from 16:00 to 20:00 this Saturday.
Public transportation circulation also remains affected until 23:00 today, with significant impacts on Carris fleet operations, including detours to Rua Bartolomeu Dias, Av. do Restelo, and Rua dos Jerónimos, as circulation in Praça do Império is prohibited, preventing trams from crossing during this period.
The Oeiras City Council announced the closure of parking lots in Torre and other locations from Thursday evening to Sunday morning. The Marginal Avenue is partially closed in both directions between Carcavelos Roundabout and Alto da Barra/Inatel Oeiras Exit until 01:00 on Sunday.
This Saturday, between 09:30 and 10:30, the ‘La Vuelta’ Youth race will take place, co-organized with the Portuguese Cycling Federation, for young riders between 12 and 16 years old, from Avenida da Índia to Alcântara.
The Pedala Portugal Bike Tour, between Praça do Império and Praia da Torre, takes place from 10:00 to 13:00, before the start of the Lisbon-Oeiras time trial of ‘La Vuelta’ at 15:30, from Praça do Império to Torre.
In Cascais, according to the City Council, traffic cuts will occur until 16:00 on Sunday, with Baía de Cascais, Avenida D. Carlos I, and Avenida da República being closed. The Marechal Carmona parking lot will also be closed during the same period, while the Carcavelos parking lot will be closed from 00:00 to 20:00 on Saturday.
