Lídia Pereira re-elected as youth leader of the European People’s Party

The PSD MEP Lídia Pereira was re-elected for another term in the leadership of the youth of the European People’s Party (YEPP), in the 14th congress of that structure that took place in Braga and ended today.

According to a note sent to Lusa, Lídia Pereira was reelected for a two-year mandate, with 71% of the votes, and “assumed as a priority for the next mandate the need to raise wages to face the inflationary crisis that affects Europe, the housing crisis and the fight against climate change.

“The next mandate will be marked by the European elections of 2024, electing the need to respond to the problems of youth as a priority on the agenda of the European People’s Party,” she adds.

In a post on Facebook, Lídia Pereira thanked “the vote of confidence of the YEPP member organizations, in particular the support of the Young Social Democrats, in the re-election for another term as YEPP president.”

The MEP also pointed to unity to “overcome the challenges that lie ahead” for her generation.

The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, congratulated Lídia Pereira for her reelection.

Through a post on the social network Twitter, the social-democratic leader wished the YEPP president a “good mandate.”

“Europe needs an even stronger and more determined youth. Access to housing, lower taxes and better wages are also our priority,” Montenegro indicated.

Also JSD congratulated Lídia Pereira on her re-election, considering it “a pride”.

“We are sure that she will continue to defend a Europe of opportunities for new generations,” the structure added in a post on Twitter.

Lídia Pereira, first elected to the position in November 2018, was re-elected in July 2021 with 97.57% of the votes.

She was the first woman and also the first Portuguese to lead the PPE youth organization, to which the youth of the PSD (JSD) and the CDS (JP) belong, from Portugal, and brings together about 60 organizations from all over Europe.

The 14th Youth Congress of the European People’s Party, with the theme “The road ahead: prepared for 2024”, started on Friday, in Braga, and ended today.
