On August 12, the Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a 36-year-old taxi driver on suspicion of committing the crime of speculation.
According to a statement from the PSP, after a passenger transport service, “the detainee charged an amount above the stipulated rate, in this specific case thirty-four euros and five cents more than the actual price.”
When questioned, he returned the remaining amount indicated by the taximeter to the affected passengers.
The man was formally charged as a defendant, provided his identity and residence information, and was presented for initial questioning. The Court decreed a provisional suspension of the proceedings.
The taxi vehicle was preventively seized, pending assessment by a judicial authority, as stated in the final note from the PSP.
