Bloomberg has released a new analysis stating that Portugal is falling short of North American expectations.
American investors are discouraged for a number of reasons, including the language barrier, bureaucratic red tape, housing price increases, and the termination of the golden visa program.
Demand for the “Golden Visa” program, which allows foreigners to live and work in Portugal, decreased by 18% between January and June.
However, the 37% decrease is more noteworthy when applied to North Americans.
Meanwhile, the number of North Americans living in Portugal has increased by a factor of more than three between 2018 and 2022, according to Bloomberg, reaching a total of 9,794.
In only the last year, 216 golden visa were issued to citizens of North America.
