Arcos de Valdevez, Viana do Castelo, 11 Jan 2024 (Lusa) – Luís Represas, Tim, from Xutos e Pontapés, and conductor Vitorino d’ Almeida are taking part in the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the Arcos de Valdevez music and dance conservatory, it was announced today.

The commemorative program, presented at a press conference at the Conservatory of Music and Dance in Arcos de Valdevez, in the district of Viana do Castelo, includes several concerts and other initiatives, starting on the 26th and ending on September 7th.

In a statement sent to the Lusa news agency, the conservatory said that the first part of the program will take place on the 26th at the Casa das Artes.

Called “Conversations at School”, it will bring together musician Luís Represas, political commentator Luís Marques Mendes and actress Sofia Nicholson “to debate the importance of music in education and its ability to positively influence the development of children and young people”.

The “Almost April” initiative is scheduled for April 22, with the participation of conductor Vitorino d’Almeida.

Tim, the lead singer of Xutos & Pontapés, will take part in a summer concert to mark the end of the year at the conservatory of music and dance.

“It’s an important date and we couldn’t fail to mark it. There’s nothing better than having a program full of unique moments. Over the 10 years of the conservatory there has been significant growth in the number of students and in the way the arts are taught,” said the president of the conservatory, Nuno Brito, quoted in the press release.

According to the official, “Arcos de Valdevez now has artistic education, a form of learning that only adds value and skills to the students”.

Currently, the music and dance conservatory has 224 students, 91 of whom are in articulated teaching with the Valdevez school grouping.

“Arts and culture in inland areas are fundamental for bringing children and young people closer to these sectors and giving them the opportunity to have access, for example, to music, dance and theater education in their own lands,” said Nuno Brito.
