Madeira. Funchal Captaincy issues warnings of bad weather and strong winds

The Port Authority says it has received from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) “a warning signal 6 (bad weather) for the Madeira archipelago,” which “corresponds to wind force 7 (51 to 62 kilometers per hour) from any direction.”

The maritime authority also issued a strong wind warning, in effect until 06:00 on Wednesday (the bad weather warning does not indicate a specific time).

The Port Authority indicates that, based on IPMA forecasts, the wind will blow from the northeast “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong in the eastern and western extremes of the island.”

The waves may reach up to three meters on the north coast, while in the southern area they should not exceed one meter.

The Funchal Port Authority appeals to the maritime community and the general population to take proper precautions “both in preparing for a trip to the sea and when at sea or in coastal areas.”

Reinforcing the mooring and maintaining close vigilance of docked and anchored vessels, avoiding walks near the sea and exposed areas, and refraining from recreational fishing are some of the recommendations.
