All the districts of mainland Portugal, with the exception of Viana do Castelo, and the archipelago of Madeira will today be at very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, according to the IPMA.
The district of Viana do Castelo is at high risk of exposure to UV radiation.
On Friday, the risk will remain very high on the mainland and in the Madeira archipelago.
For the Azores archipelago, the IPMA is forecasting very high levels for the island of São Miguel, high levels for Faial and Flores and moderate levels for Terceira.
The ultraviolet radiation scale has five levels, ranging from extreme to low risk.
For regions at extreme risk, the IPMA recommends avoiding exposure to the sun as much as possible.
With regard to regions at very high risk, the IPMA advises wearing sunglasses with a UV filter, a hat, a T-shirt, an umbrella, sunscreen and avoiding exposing children to the sun.
