The military conducted investigative actions following a fire that occurred on Wednesday, which led to the conclusion that “the use of a brush cutter with a metal disc was at its origin,” the GNR (National Republican Guard) said in a statement.
The flames consumed an area of low-lying scrub and a pine forest of approximately eight hectares, as detailed by the authorities.
The presumed perpetrator was identified, and the facts were referred to the judicial court of Bragança.
The GNR reminded that whenever there is a “very high” or “maximum” level of rural fire danger, it is prohibited to carry out agricultural work with brush cutters, brush mowers, and shredders or equipment with exhaust without a spark arrestor device. Similarly, it is not permitted to use cutting equipment such as chainsaws or angle grinders, or to operate mechanical methods that, in their action with mineral or artificial elements, generate sparks or heat.
