The Portuguese Navy helps 4 people after a vessel loses propulsion near Nazaré

The National Maritime Authority (AMN) assisted four crew members this Saturday who were six nautical miles, approximately ten kilometers, north of the port of Nazaré, in the district of Leiria.

According to a post shared on Facebook, the incident occurred in the late afternoon, with the vessel itself issuing an alert around 7 PM. The recreational vessel was without propulsion.

Crew members from the Nazaré Lifesaving Station were immediately dispatched to the location.

“Upon arrival at the vessel, the Lifesaving Station crew members found that the four people were physically well, with no need for medical assistance. They then proceeded to escort the vessel, for safety reasons, to the port of Nazaré,” the statement reads.

According to the AMN, the vessel’s owner was notified “and will only be allowed to depart after undergoing an inspection to ensure seaworthiness conditions.”
