A foreign citizen, wanted since March 2022 by the Spanish justice system for the crime of international drug trafficking, was arrested at Lisbon airport, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced today.
According to the PJ, the detainee, who was travelling on a flight from China, is a member of a criminal drug trafficking organization.
The man is accused of, between June and October 2020, “in the middle of the pandemic, having used two warehouses to intensively cultivate cannabis, which was then distributed to several European countries or sold directly to local buyers, managing to obtain large illicit profits with this scheme,” the PJ said in a statement.
For these facts, he could be sentenced to between four years and six months and 10 years in prison.
The suspect was brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal, which ordered that he await the extradition process in pre-trial detention.
The operation was led by the PJ’s Criminal Intelligence Unit, in conjunction with police officers working at Lisbon Airport.
