An 87-year-old man who had been missing since Sunday afternoon in Serpa was found alive near the Guadiana River in Quintos, in the municipality of Beja, on Wednesday morning.
The man, who has dementia, was located around 9:00 AM today in the vicinity of where his Toyota Hilux pickup truck was found at dusk on Tuesday, as confirmed by the National Republican Guard (GNR).
Although he was “debilitated” with a “very dry mouth,” the elderly man was conscious and appeared to be in good condition.
“It was like a miracle, after almost three days,” said a family member.
The man, who will be transported to a hospital, was located after aerial search resources were reinforced.
It is believed that the elderly man managed to find his car keys and left home around 2:00 PM on Sunday. The last location signal from his mobile phone was recorded at 5:00 PM on Monday in Mértola.
GNR patrols were on the scene, as well as members of the Serpa Volunteer Fire Department and the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Baixo Alentejo.
