More than 40 municipalities in six districts at maximum fire danger

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed several municipalities in all districts of mainland Portugal under very high and high fire danger.

The highest maximum temperature forecast for today will be reached in Évora and Castelo Branco with 34 degrees Celsius, followed by Bragança and Beja with 33, and Santarém, Portalegre, and Vila Real with 31.

According to IPMA calculations, the fire danger will remain high in some districts at least until Thursday.

This risk, determined by IPMA, has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum. The calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

IPMA forecasts for today partly cloudy skies, with cloudiness in the North and Central coastal areas until late morning, which may persist in some locations. Stronger winds are expected from the afternoon in the western coastal areas, and mist or fog in some coastal locations.

Minimum temperatures will range between 12 degrees (in Leiria) and 21 (in Faro), and maximum temperatures between 23 (in Aveiro and Porto) and 34 (in Évora and Castelo Branco).
