The effects are particularly visible on the South bank of the Tagus River regarding obstetrics and gynecology, with the closure of emergency services at São Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal, Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada, and Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital in Barreiro. Pediatric emergency services at Barreiro and Setúbal hospitals have also closed in this area.
In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, patients will have to seek alternatives due to the closure of obstetrics emergency at Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, pediatric emergency at Beatriz Ângelo Hospital in Loures, and obstetrics and gynecology emergency at Santarém Hospital.
In addition to these closed emergency services, the Central region also sees the closure of obstetrics and gynecology emergencies at Santo André Hospital in Leiria and Caldas da Rainha Hospital.
In the North, the pediatric emergency at Chaves Hospital is closed, while in the South, access to the obstetrics emergency at Portimão Hospital is not possible.
The complementary pediatric care service in Viseu has its emergency closed today.
Amadora-Sintra Hospital has its pediatric emergency referenced between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
Prof. Dr. Fernando Fonseca Hospital, known as Amadora-Sintra Hospital, also has its obstetrics and gynecology emergency referenced throughout the day, while Beatriz Ângelo Hospital (Loures) has its obstetrics and gynecology emergency referenced for 24 hours to CODU/INEM.
In referenced units, services are reserved for internal emergency cases or those referred by the Urgent Patient Orientation Center (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) or the SNS 24 line.
In total, 12 emergency services were closed on Saturday, in addition to three referenced (with restrictions) and two referenced CODU/INEM, with 155 emergency services remaining open.
The constraints worsened today, with 17 emergency services closed, compared to the 15 expected, and three referenced (with restrictions), reducing the number of open emergency services to 151.
In addition to the 12 emergency services closed the day before, today saw the closure of gynecology and obstetrics emergencies, as well as pediatrics, at Santo André Hospital in Leiria and Rainha Santa Isabel Hospital in Torres Novas, plus the obstetrics and gynecology emergency at Beatriz Ângelo Hospital (Loures) and the gynecology emergency at Portimão Hospital.
On the other hand, the obstetrics and gynecology emergency at Caldas da Rainha Hospital reopens.
In a statement released on Thursday, the SNS Executive Board warned the population about “constraints in emergency services during the upcoming weekend” and asked users to “always call the SNS24/SNS Pregnant 808242424 line before going to a hospital.”
In the same note, the SNS Executive Board indicated the closure of 13 emergency services, but the constraints will, in fact, be higher, given the data from the SNS portal.
