The new national rail pass comes into operation this Wednesday: for 49 euros per month, it can be used on all regional trains nationwide and allows unlimited travel, without time restrictions. “This is a low-cost and environmentally friendly transport solution that allows commuting and other travel with flexibility throughout the country,” the government described this measure included in the State Budget for 2023.
This ticket is loaded onto a CP card, is valid monthly (calendar month), and is on sale from the 21st of the previous month for which it is valid.
In a statement, the public company stressed that this pass can be requested at any ticket office and “will exclusively cover travel on regional trains throughout the national territory”, thus not being applicable to interregional and urban trains.
“This new resource provides Portuguese citizens with the possibility to travel, without schedule limitations or restrictions of high demand periods, thus offering an economical and environmentally friendly transportation option, allowing pass holders to travel conveniently and flexibly throughout the country,” CP said.
