The frigate Bartolomeu Dias left the Lisbon Naval Base this Sunday morning to join the NATO Standing Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), the Atlantic Alliance’s permanent naval force, until June 25.
In a press release, the Portuguese Navy stated that the farewell ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defense, Helena Carreiras, the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Coelho Cândido, and the Naval Commander, Vice Admiral Chaves Ferreira.
The frigate Bartolomeu Dias is commanded by Frigate Captain Rodrigues Pedra and has a garrison of 168 military personnel, including a Marine Corps boarding platoon, a team of divers and a team of unmanned aerial system operators.
