Patrícia Machado Santos has already worked on housing issues for Lisbon and Oeiras city councils.
Architect Patrícia Machado Santos is the new Secretary of State for Housing, a portfolio that will fall under the Ministry of Infrastructure.
According to a note published on the Presidency of the Republic’s website, the Secretariat of State that will now be headed by Patrícia Machado Santos is one of the three that make up the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing.
According to a biographical note released by the government chaired by Social Democrat Luís Montenegro, Patrícia Machado Santos has a degree in Architecture, a field in which she also has a PhD in Construction Management Technologies.
Patrícia Machado Santos has already worked on housing issues in the Lisbon and Oeiras city councils, in the Lisbon district, the statement said. At Oeiras council, the new secretary of state was director of the Municipal Housing Department.
Housing is once again merged with Infrastructure
The Housing portfolio has now been merged with the Infrastructure portfolio , after having been separated in 2022 by the previous government, led by socialist António Costa.
In addition to the Secretary of State for Housing, the Ministry under Miguel Pinto Luz includes the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, which will be Hugo Espírito Santo’s, and the Secretary of State for Mobility, with Cristina Pinto Dias.
PSD vice-president Miguel Pinto Luz took up the post of minister for the first time, in the Infrastructure and Housing portfolio, after having been Secretary of State for Infrastructure in the second brief government led by Pedro Passos Coelho in 2015.
The President of the Republic has accepted the list of 41 Secretaries of State proposed by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, for the XXIV Government.
