Oeiras Town Hall will mark the 50th anniversary of April 25 with a concert by Pedro Abrunhosa, exhibitions, debates and street entertainment, the municipality in the Lisbon district announced today.
In total, there will be more than 200 initiatives planned by Oeiras Town Hall to mark this anniversary, which will start next month and run until November 2025, according to a statement from the municipality chaired by the independent Isaltino Morais.
The concert by Portuguese singer Pedro Abrunhosa, which will take place from 9:30 p.m. on April 25 in the Oeiras municipal garden, will be one of the highlights of these celebrations.
The traditional solemn session will also take place in the morning, with the usual protocol ceremonies to celebrate Freedom Day.
On the previous day, April 24, a performance by the Community Choir a Capela e o Povo will take place at the Oeiras Mother Church, with highlights including the interpretation of songs such as “Queda de um Império”, “Vê bem”, “Cantigas de Maio”, “Mudam-se os tempos, mudamam-se as vontades”, “Acordai” and “Grândola Vila Morena”.
The evening will end with a fireworks display, launched at midnight from the municipality’s five parish unions.
The program to mark the 50th anniversary of April 25 also includes an exhibition by João Abel Manta on the press, at the Palácio dos Anjos, in Algés, and one on the censorship mechanism, at the Centro Cultural Palácio do Egito.
Other planned initiatives include gatherings at the Verney Gallery, commemorative talks and the recitation of poems about freedom.
