The Judicial Police (PJ) returned to the Autonomous Region of Madeira this Tuesday for new searches, according to the Diário de Notícias da Madeira.
According to this newspaper, the inspectors are expected to execute 25 search and seizure warrants in various public bodies and at least one private company, as part of an investigation into public contracts and commercial relationships being conducted by the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DCIAP), based in Lisbon.
The mega-operation, which involves not only PJ inspectors but also elements of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), is taking place at different points across the archipelago.
Among the public bodies being searched are, according to DN Madeira, the regional secretariats of Health, Finance, Equipment and Infrastructure, Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, the public company Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM), Madeira Ports Administration (APRAM), IDR, PRODERAM, and the Municipal Chambers of Funchal and Calheta.
The investigation concerns “suspicions of contractual irregularities established in the period between 2020 and 2024, with the PJ targeting four crimes such as economic participation in business, undue receipt of advantage and party financing, and prevarication.”
Attempts have been made to confirm this information with the PJ, as well as with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), but so far it has not been possible.
