The accused are suspected of importing, exporting and distributing banned substances.
Two people were arrestedon the island of Madeira on suspicion of trafficking in prohibited substances and methods, the Judicial Police (PJ) revealed in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto on Tuesday, July 2.
According to the inspectors, the arrest followed an international investigation, which identified and located a commercial company strongly suspected of importing, exporting and distributing prohibited substances, located in Caniçal.
In addition to arresting the suspects – a woman and a man – who were employees of the company, the PJ seized 150,000 packages of synthetic anabolic steroids, both injectable and oral.
Also seized were refrigeration equipment, an industrial scale and other precision digital scales, material for packing and sending parcels, computer devices and various documents.
When the defendants were brought before the court for their first questioning, they were subject to non-detentive coercive measures.
